Jason Hatley - Pastor of Worship Arts
Hi, I'm Jason Hatley, Pastor of Worship Arts. I am responsible for the creation, programming and implementation of the arts into our weekly Sunday services. I work with the artists in our church to create relevant art from music to media, and drama to dance, that creates transformational moments in people's lives. BASIC STUFF:
My wife Karen and I were married in 2000 and we are proud parents to our beautiful (and amazingly talented) daughter, Abigail, and our Boston Terrier, Rocky! We’ve been living and working in New York since January 2002 and we simply love this city!
One of my deepest passions in life is music and the arts. My family was a musical one, so I inherited much of that passion from my grandfather and started playing guitar, singing, and writing at a young age. I have a BM in Music Performance with a concentration in Sacred Music, have performed in venues around the country, have played in a great rock’n roll band, released two albums, and have found great joy in life in leading artists to use their gifts to make a significant spiritual difference in people’s lives. I could have never imagined that I would one day live in New York pursuing that passion.
I also love to meet new people, hang out with my family, read, go to movies, and to talk about my faith in Jesus. I became a follower of Jesus when I was 9 years old, and I have never regretted it. My faith has given me peace and joy that I have not found elsewhere, and taken me to places I have only dreamed of. One of those places is here in New York City starting a church like the Journey - a church where I can be myself and pursue God. I want to be real about faith and relationships, and The Journey is the place I believe I will find people just like me.

Interests and Favorites
- Places: On the beach in Bermuda. On the farm back in North Carolina.
- What's on your iPod: Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, U2, Coldplay, Garth Brooks, The Beatles, Dave Matthews, Lincoln Brewster (and all the others bands that play the over 6,200 songs on my iPod)
- Books: My Father's Dragon (my favorite when I was a kid), all of the Harry Bosch novels (author Michael Connelly), anything on Leadership, and the Bible
- What do you TiVo: The Office, 24, Lost, House, College basketball, My Name is Earl, re-runs of The Andy Griffith Show
- Sport Teams: UNC Tar Heels (rah, rah, Carolina, -lina…), The Yankees
- Movies: Casa Blanca, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, The Three Amigos, Back to the Future, The Matrix, Austin Powers, anything with Steve Martin or Mel Brooks
- Hobbies: Music, Reading, Sports (mostly watching them), hanging out with my family and my dog, going to the movies, and I have a real propensity for excellent Chinese food (is that a hobby?)
- Dislikes: Celery and Whoppers (the chocolate ones)
- Odd Facts: My hometown is Frog Pond, NC
