Kerrick Thomas - Executive Pastor

Kerrick Thomas

My name is Kerrick and I’m the Executive Pastor at The Journey.  Among other things, my responsibilities include teaching on Sundays, leading the area of Growth Groups (small groups) and working with many of the age-graded ministries at our church. I absolutely love to see people get plugged in; grow spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually; and then see them step into positions of leadership so they help others on their journey.

BASIC STUFF:

My wife, Lorie, and I have been married since May 29, 1999. We don’t have any children…but we do have a Jack Russell “Terror” named Aubie.  We moved to Manhattan (East Village) in July of 2001 with a desire to begin a new kind of church in New York City. Before that, Lorie and I lived in New Jersey while finishing graduate school at Princeton Theological Seminary.  Lorie and I love serving together.  In fact, Lorie is a youth and young adult minister at a great inner-city church here in the city called Graffiti. Lorie and I have also have served overseas in missions to the Philippines (twice), American Samoa and Africa.

BIRTHDAY: April 3, 1975

EDUCATION: Furman University – B.A. in Political Science and History; Princeton Theological Seminary – Master of Divinity

Interests and Favorites

  • Places: Of the places I've been, my favorites include the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar (all in Tanzania). I also love the Village!
  • What's on your iPod: Anything rock or alternative.
  • Books: I will read anything to do with history, politics, communication or spiritual growth…I also like Earnest Hemingway.
  • What do you TiVo: The Simpsons
  • Sport Teams: NY Jets & Alabama Crimson Tide (football)
  • Movies: "It's a Wonderful Life," "Forrest Gump," "Rocky I,"...or anything stupid that makes me laugh.
  • Hobbies: I enjoy reading, lifting weights, jogging with Aubie and college football.
  • Dislikes: I hate waiting in lines or being stuck in traffic…a good fit for Manhattan, right?
  • Odd Facts: I have a huge scar on my left knee from a college football injury; I absolutely, positively cannot roller skate (or any variation thereof such as ice skate or roller blade); and I sink like a rock in water.
  • Life Scripture: "That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurable great glory that will last forever! So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what we see is only temporary, but what we do not see lasts forever." – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
